The Company will fully utilize the service infrastructure and databases developed in support of the shipping industry for approximately half a century to reduce the workload of shipping companies in compliance with EU MRV.

Start of provision of Emission Status Monitoring Service supporting EU MRV for shipping companies
In addition to the shipping industry's conventional role to safely and economically transport cargo, ecological efforts are now required in accordance with the EU MRV coming into force. In order to support the shipping industry's efforts to address the challenges presented by Ecology, the Company will commence the provision of an Emission Status Monitoring Service offering total support for compliance with EU MRV.
As the first phase, applications for Monitoring Plan Support offering assistance for the drafting of Monitoring Plans due for submission on August 31, 2017, will be accepted from April 12, 2017. Following that, additional support will be provided for each phase of EU MRV implementation.
From 2019, a global shipping fuel consumption reporting system will be started by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), and there are plans to extend the Emission Status Monitoring Service to support regulation under global standards.
We have supported safe and economic shipping for half a century since the company's predecessor, Oceanroutes. In addition to the launch of Emission Status Monitoring Service, we will offer full support for the shipping industry entering a new stage of Ecology through the Optimum Ship Routeing Service supporting the realization of fuel-efficient navigation and the Performance Status Monitoring Service for understanding and managing the performance of ships.

About EU MRV, the European regulations on the shipping industry's fuel consumption reporting system
The CO2 emitted by the shipping industry as a whole accounts for 2.5% of the world's total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions(*). In 2015, the European Commission adopted EU MRV [Monitoring, Reporting and Verification], European regulations on the fuel consumption reporting system of the shipping industry to reduce global warming and the burden on the environment. EU MRV mandates the monitoring, reporting and verification of emissions by ships exceeding 5,000 gross tonnes calling at ports within the EU, regardless of the ship's home country, and monitoring is slated to commence on January 1, 2018. As the first phase, companies managing the ships subject to regulation are required to create and submit a Monitoring Plan to the certification body. From January 2018, measurement of CO2 based on the Monitoring Plan will be mandatory for all voyages calling at European ports for the purpose of loading or unloading of cargo or passengers.
