Port of Oslo gets PERS-certified for the second time

Wednesday, 08 November 2023 | 21:00

ESPO congratulates the Port of Oslo (Norway) for being recertified through the EcoPorts’ environmental management standard (PERS). Port of Oslo first became a member of the EcoPorts network in 2012, and is now certified for the second time under the PERS. The certificate was handed over during the ESPO General Assembly, taking place today on 7 November 2023.

Isabelle Ryckbost, ESPO Secretary General, commented: “I would like to congratulate the Port of Oslo with its recertification. Port of Oslo is setting the bar high when it comes to environment and sustainability. They show a lot of ambition striving to become the most environmental urban port in the world. They really deserve this certification. We also embrace their emphasis on a collaborative approach: advancing through cooperation, which is also one of the main ideas behind the EcoPorts Network.”

Anaëlle Boudry, ESPO Senior Policy Advisor and EcoPorts Coordinator, said: “We are delighted to congratulate for the second time the Port of Oslo on their recertification with EcoPorts PERS. As a pioneering force in environmental management and sustainability, this PERS certification exemplifies the port leadership in this vital arena and is testament to the commitment to greening through the environmental management tools provided by the EcoPorts Network. We anticipate the port of Oslo’s continued dedication as an esteemed EcoPorts Network member.”

PERS (Port Environmental Review System) is the only port-specific environmental standard. The last five years have seen important increases in its recognition and membership, with 90 ports from 26 countries currently counting themselves as part of the EcoPorts Network, and 34 ports holding PERS certification. Compliance with the EcoPorts’ PERS standard is independently assessed by Lloyd’s Register and the certificate has a validity of two years. EcoPorts’ PERS is revised after the 2-year period, ensuring ports continuously meet the requirements.
