Cargo turnover via Ukraine’s Danube ports sets record in 2023

Wednesday, 10 January 2024 | 21:00

The cargo turnover through Ukrainian ports on the Danube River reached an all-time high in 2023, the Ukrinform news agency reported Tuesday, citing Yuriy Lytvyn, head of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA).

“Over 29 million tons of cargo passed through the Danube ports in a year,” marking an almost six-fold increase compared to the period before the ongoing Ukraine crisis, said Lytvyn.

Last year, a total of 13,045 ships entered Ukrainian Danube ports compared with 8,944 ships in 2022, the official said.

In 2023, 23 transshipment points were established in Danube ports, he said, adding that the USPA plans to implement 15 new investment projects in two ports on the river.
