Shell Singapore shuts Bukom refinery units for maintenance, sources say

Tuesday, 20 August 2024 | 00:00

Shell Singapore SHEL.L has shut one crude distillation unit (CDU) and other facilities at its refinery on Bukom island for a scheduled overhaul, three sources close to the matter said on Monday.

The maintenance is likely to end in the first half of October, they said. The oil major had shut its naphtha hydrotreater at the same site in July, one of the sources added.

“Shell routinely plans maintenance on equipment. This helps to ensure our units continue to operate in a safe and reliable manner. For reasons of commercial confidentiality, we do not provide details about the operational status of individual units,” a company spokesperson said in an email in response to Reuters’ query.

The Bukom refinery has a total crude processing capacity of around 237,000 barrels per day.

Shell sold its refinery and petrochemical plants in Singapore to a joint venture company between Indonesia petrochemicals producer Chandra Asri and major trading house GlencoreGLEN.L in early May. The transaction is expected to complete by the end of 2024, Shell said in an earlier statement.
