Relocation Plan for Pier B Released

Sunday, 13 November 2022 | 21:00

A physical copy of the plan, prepared in accordance with relevant federal and state law, is also available at the Port Administration Building, 415 W. Ocean Blvd., Long Beach CA 90802.

Public comments can be submitted in writing no later than 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, to Mark La Bonte, Senior Program Manager, Overland, Pacific & Cutler LLC, 5000 Airport Drive Suite 250, Long Beach, CA 90815, or to [email protected].

The Pier B project received federal environmental approval in April 2022. The release of the relocation plan is another key step toward moving the program towards construction. It will serve as a roadmap, ensuring the Port has the necessary resources and expertise to provide relocation benefits to those directly impacted by the program. Following receipt of public comments, the relocation plan will be submitted to the Board of Harbor Commissioners for approval.

The Pier B On-Dock Rail Support Facility will enable the Port of Long Beach to move more cargo by trains, speeding deliveries across the entire national supply chain, easing congestion and lessening local environmental impacts. The first major component, the Locomotive Facility, is scheduled to be completed in 2025, creating a functional 10,000-foot-long track. Additional tracks will be added as the construction phases progress.

Completion of the entire project is expected in 2032.
