The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has increased the probability that a system in the southern Gulf of Mexico could become a named storm in the next 48 hours.
As of early Friday afternoon, the NHC said satellite images are showing that the system, located in the southwest Gulf of Mexico and the Bay of Campeche, continues to become better organised.
“Conditions appear favourable for additional development, and a tropical depression could form later today, tonight or on Saturday,” the NHC said on Friday at its 1pm EST (18:00 GMT) update.
If it reaches tropical storm level, it would be named Danielle.
