Fire hits oil terminal and oil tanker in Venezuela

Monday, 19 September 2022 | 00:00

A fire broke out at an oil terminal in Venezuela on Saturday when a pipe used to supply gasoline to a tanker ruptured, the country’s Oil Minister Tareck said. El Aissami.

The fire, which occurred early Saturday at one of the berths at the Guaraguao terminal on Venezuela’s east coast, was extinguished soon after but also affected the Panamanian-flagged oil tanker Larko and halted terminal operations, according to maritime sources.

No injuries were reported. The affected vessel was moved away from the terminal, the sources said.

Manuel Ferreira, mayor of the coastal town of Lecheria, near Puerto la Cruz, also confirmed the incident.

The Guaraguao terminal, operated by state-owned PDVSA (PDVSA.UL), primarily handles fuel for domestic use.
