Russia’s offline diesel oil refining capacity set to rise by 77% in April, exports seen falling

Monday, 20 March 2023 | 01:00

Russia’s offline diesel oil refining capacity is set to rise in April by 0.753 million tonnes form March to 1.809 million tonnes, according to data from industry sources and Reuters calculations.

Traders expect that falling diesel oil production will lead to lower exports from Russia, as Moscow will aim to meet the needs of the domestic market first.

A rise in idle diesel oil refining capacity and lower production of the fuel may reduce Russian diesel oil exports by 0.55 million tonnes next month, the data from industry sources and Reuters calculations show.

Last year Russian oil plants produced 85.2 million tonnes of diesel, of which 50.2 million tonnes went to the domestic market, while exports totalled 35 million tonnes, according to Refinitiv data.
