Russia produced 211 million metric tons (10.24 million barrels per day) of oil between January and May, down 3.5% on the same period in 2024, Russia’s energy ministry said on Wednesday, disclosing production figures for the first time in months.
The data was revealed in a presentation of the Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev to the Federation Council, Russia’s upper house of parliament.
It likely includes production of gas condensate, a type of light oil.
According to the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, Russia’s crude oil production , excluding gas condensate, rose by 41,000 bpd in June to 9.025 million bpd, below the country’s OPEC+ quota of 9.161 million bpd.
Russia’s natural gas output fell by 3.0% year-on-year to 290 billion cubic metres over the same five-month period, the minister’s presentation said, while coal production increased by 0.1% to 187 million metric tons during the same period.
Russia has classified numerous statistical items, including production of oil, since the start of what it calls a special military operation in Ukraine in February 2022.
The country expects its oil and gas condensate production to be stable this year, at 516 million tons.
Last year it declined by 2.7%, according to the energy ministry, amid an agreement by the OPEC+ group of the leading global oil producers to curb output.
