Port of Felixstowe welcomes back one of largest container ships

Saturday, 13 January 2024 | 01:00

One of the largest container ships in the world has paid another visit to the Port of Felixstowe.

MSC Loreto arrived at the Suffolk dock late on Wednesday night.

At about 400m (1,312ft) in length, the ship has capacity for more than 24,000 standard containers.

The ship, which sails under the Liberian flag, was built last year and paid her first visit to Felixstowe – Britain’s biggest and busiest container port – in May.

Keen boat spotter Steven Page, who spent the day waiting for the vessel, said: “It’s terrific – it’s a real privilege for us.

“This is one of the five or six largest container ships in the world and it’s come home to Felixstowe – wonderful.

“It’s great recognition for Felixstowe itself and it says a lot about how big this port is, in world terms.”

Speaking about his hobby, Mr Page added: “No matter how many times I see it, I never fail to be impressed by the size and the majesty of these things. They are just immense.”
