Egypt has issued a tender seeking five spot cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for delivery from August to September, two industry sources said.
In recent months Egypt has been seeking LNG to cover heavy summer demand from July through September, and fully awarded its biggest tender in years to buy 20 cargoes.
It is now seeking three cargoes for delivery to Ain Sukhna Aug. 13-14, Aug. 25-26 and Sept. 12-13.
For delivery to Aqaba, it is seeking two cargoes for delivery Sept. 3-4 and Sept. 21-22.
The tender, issued by Egyptian General Petroleum Corp (EGPC), closes on July 29.
Egypt relies on natural gas to generate electricity, but supply has been dwindling as its growing population of 106 million and urban development have been pushing up power needs while high cooling demand during summer drives up consumption.
