Wilson Sons, recognized for its extensive experience of more than 187 years, has signed a new agreement with TotalEnergies EP Brasil to provide logistics support to oil production activities in the Lapa Field, in the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin, through one of its Offshore Support Bases — the Rio Base — located in Guanabara Bay.

The agreement with the Brazilian subsidiary of the global multi-energy company includes support for exploratory campaigns in TotalEnergies’ assets. A pioneer in the offshore support base business, Wilson Sons owns two private terminals in Guanabara Bay — the Rio Base and the Niterói Base — totalling eight berths. The company has expertise in remote operations. It has set up temporary bases in multiple ports along the Brazilian coastline.

“The new agreement with TotalEnergies is a recognition of Wilson Sons' excellence and the expertise of its Offshore Support Bases. We always prioritize the safety, operational efficiency, and sustainability of the operations,” says Mariana Jannuzzi, executive director of Wilson Sons' Offshore Support Bases.

Wilson Sons' Rio Base: strategic location and support to pre-salt fields

Investments in innovation and sustainability

The Rio Base is located in Caju, in the port district of Rio de Janeiro. The 65,000-square-metre base has five mooring berths and is strategically located to support oil fields in the pre-salt polygon. Its services include cargo handling, storage of materials and equipment (with customised high-technology software for inventory and cargo flow management and control), environmental services, fluid and bulk plants to support drilling campaigns, and facilities. Furthermore, through collective efforts between Wilson Sons and TotalEnergies, sustainability projects focused on water management, waste management, and energy are currently under development.

Wilson Sons’ offshore support unit is the only private terminal in Guanabara Bay. It offers the advantage of providing berthing at two strategically located bases in Rio and Niterói.

TotalEnergies’ operations will also be supported by the Guaxindiba Pipe Yard, which is part of Wilson Sons' business unit located 20 kilometres from the Niterói Base. It stores drilling pipes and other equipment in an area of 63,000 square metres. With investments in technology and innovation, qualified teams, and permits from the Brazilian authorities, the pipe yard conducts pipeline inspection and hydrojetting.
