Emirati logistics company DP World is considering shipping freight from the Middle East to Central Russia using the infrastructure of the Vorsino industrial park in Kaluga Region.

The region and DP World signed a memorandum on cooperation in the transport and logistics sector at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, an Interfax correspondent reported from the signing ceremony.

The region’s governor, Vladislav Shapsha told reporters after the signing that, with the support of DP World, the region plans to develop transport and logistics infrastructure for freight shipments between Central Russia and Asia using the Vorsino park.

DP World chairman Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem said the memorandum is a kind of continuation of the cooperation agreement the company signed with Rosatom on July 15 to develop the Northern Sea Route (NSR). The agreement on the NSR is extremely important and will hopefully help to ease logistics problems throughout the world, and the agreement with Kaluga Region will be a kind of continuation of it because the largest transport zone in terms of freight traffic is Moscow, he said.

The Vorsino industrial park is located on the border between Kaluga and Moscow regions along the M-3 Moscow-Kiev highway, which is part of the E101 European route, 6 km from Obninsk, 75 km from Moscow and 95 km from Kaluga. The M-1 Moscow-Minsk highway, which is part of European route E30, is 40 km from the park and the A-101 Moscow-Warsaw highway is 15 km away.
The park has a customs terminal and multimodal transport and logistics center, Freight Village Vorsino, which is managed by Freight Village Ru.

DP World operates 295 businesses in 78 countries. The group’s main business is container shipping, which generates more than have of its revenue.
