Danish shipper Maersk said that its warehouses business at ports in has partially resumed under the closed-loop pandemic management.

Although land bound transportation still faces some obstacles, China has moved to take effective measures to ensuring stable and smooth supply and industrial chains so as to guarantee steady operations of Shanghai core functions as an economic, financial, trade and shipping center, the shipping giant said in a statement on its WeChat account.

Maersk, the world’s second-largest container shipping company, said that Shanghai ports – including Waigaoqiao and Yangshan – are now operating normally.

It said that the problem of both reefer and cargo yard congestion at Shanghai ports has been addressed in the past several days. By closely following the ports situation, the com-pany said that it plans to resume new bookings as early as possible. Maersk halted book-ings for all new reefer and some dangerous cargoes from April 14.

It’s said that the shipper has provided multi-mode services via barge or rail as alternative solutions for the corridor between Shanghai and its neighboring cities to alleviate customers’ pains. “We firmly support governments’ measures to ensure smooth landside transportation and discharge imported containers out of Shanghai ports,” the company said, noting that it believes governments shall take necessary measures to guarantee smooth operation of the gateway for foreign trade.

The first quarter of 2022 witnessed another wave of Covid flare-up across China, throwing a number of Chinese cities into short-term supply chain snarls including Shanghai.
