ABS Consulting Teams with Gliderol to Develop and Test First Ever Blast Mitigating Roller Shutter Door

Saturday, 22 October 2022 | 00:00

ABSG Consulting Inc. (ABS Consulting), a leading global operational risk management company, has collaborated with GDS Global Ltd. (Gliderol), a leading provider of commercial and industrial door and shutter solutions in Singapore and the South East Asia region, to develop and test the first ever blast mitigating roller shutter door.

This effort combines Gliderol’s unique design specifications with ABS Consulting’s global blast mitigation expertise. Concept development began in February 2019, with final testing concluding in Quarter 1 of 2022, resulting in approved performance levels that now officially classify the roller shutter door as blast resistant.

“This development is a game changer for the explosion and thermal hazards industry,” said Joe Woods, ABS Consulting Vice President of Risk and Reliability. “As we develop new and innovative ways to manage risks related to blast hazards, our ultimate goal is to continue designing solutions focused on minimizing serious injury, loss of life, damage to property and loss of mission. Our collaboration with Gliderol has the potential to help our clients reduce the severity of incidents.”

“Collaborating with ABS Consulting allowed us to expand our technical expertise and solutions for manufacturing our industrial door systems,” said Michael Wong, Chief Executive Officer at Gliderol. “We look forward to providing our valued customers a tailored risk solution that meets their specific requirements and provides a critical layer of safety and security.”

The testing and design verification of the door design and systems was completed at ABS Consulting’s world-class Shock Tube Testing facility based in San Antonio, Texas. ABS Consulting’s engineers also performed Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to assist with the verification of the design; both the FEA and shock tube test produced comparable outcomes, confirming that future designs can be analyzed using FEA alone.
