The new 10 km (6.2 mile) extension to Egypt’s Suez Canal is now operational, the Canal Authority’s Chairman Osama Rabie said in a statement on Tuesday.

Rabie has said that the extension project will increase the canal’s capacity by between six and eight vessels per day.
