India’s state-owned premier container terminal on the west coast is facing a technical disruption, spokesperson for the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) said.
According to media reports, the information technology systems at the container terminal have been crippled for the past few days due to a “suspected” cyber-attack. However, the port officials said that there has been no effect on the cargo operations at the terminal, without confirming or denying the cyber-attack.
JNPT has five container terminals, with one operated by itself and the remaining four operated by private operators.
There has been no impact on the operations at the other four terminals at JNPT, the port spokesperson said.
To ensure business continuity, a standard operating procedure has been chalked out for an interim period for handling EXIM containers at JNPCT (container terminal) through alternate arrangements from Wednesday, the spokesperson said, adding that government agencies are working to resolve it.
In the calendar year 2021, JNPT handles 5.63 million containers, up 25.86 percent over the previous year.
