Babcock LGE, the global leader in liquefied gas solutions, has successfully delivered the first in a series of ecoETHN® cargo handling and fuel gas supply systems for Very Large Ethane Carriers (VLECs) at Jiangnan Shipyard in China for Pacific Gas. The ship will deliver ethane on charter to global chemical company, INEOS.
Babcock LGE’s ecoETHN® technology, which integrates the cargo handling and fuel gas supply systems, enables the reliquefaction of methane-rich Boil Off Gas that can then be used as fuel for main engine and auxiliary power generators.
On a typical deep-sea voyage, ecoETHN® – when integrated with ship main engine and power generation systems – only needs one reliquefaction system in operation, providing CAPEX and OPEX benefits. It reduces greenhouse gas emissions and promotes safe and efficient vessel operations, providing environmental and commercial advantages.
Managing Director of Babcock LGE, Neale Campbell, said: “The delivery of our first ethane cargo handling and fuel gas supply system, ecoETHN®, is a huge achievement for Babcock LGE.
“We are proud to have delivered this valuable and important project on schedule, which is testament to the dedication and hard work of the Babcock LGE team. Furthermore, it strengthens our long-standing relationship with Jiangnan Shipyard and shipowner, Pacific Gas.”
Babcock LGE had an exceptional year in 2021 for project wins and successful project deliveries across the LPG, LNG and Fuel Gas Supply System markets. Looking to the future, the business is committed to supporting the transition to net zero by developing solutions for zero carbon fuel and CO2 shipping.
Babcock LGE is a world-leader in cargo handling and fuel gas supply systems for the liquefied gas markets. Its environmentally-focused technologies improve vessel efficiency and enhance performance, delivering value to customers throughout the entire life of the vessel.
