Monday, 07 February 2022 | 13:00

Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (KSOE) and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) garnered orders worth 2.5 trillion won during the Lunar New Year holiday.

KSOE won orders for nine ships worth 704 billion won, while DSME landing orders for eight ships worth 1.84 trillion won.

KSOE signed contracts with three European shipping companies and one Oceanian shipping company for two 24,000-ton LNG-powered roll-on & roll-off ships, one 12,500-cubic-meter LNG bunkering ship, and six 2,800-TEU feeder container ships.

DSME will build two LNG carrier ships for Maran Gas, which is affiliated with Greece’s largest shipping company Angelicoussis Shipping Group, and six container ships for a European client. The LNG carriers are 174,000-cubic-meter large and will be equipped with DSME’s high-pressure dual-fuel engines and reliquefaction unit, which can drastically reduce methane emissions, the main culprit behind greenhouse gas emissions.

Meanwhile, KSOE has received orders for 23 ships worth 4.22 trillion won since the start of this year, while DSME is closely trailing KSOE by landing orders worth 3.2 trillion won.
