Malaysia’s Petronas requests LNG cargo deferments, sources say

Friday, 09 August 2024 | 00:00

Malaysia’s Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) has requested buyers defer some loadings of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from its Bintulu complex due to operational issues at one production train, two industry sources said on Thursday.

The affected train is at the MLNG Tiga production facility at the Petronas LNG Complex (PLC) in Bintulu, Sarawak, the sources said, with one source adding that the cargo deferments were requested for the month of October.

A report by ANZ Research on Wednesday said the Bintulu LNG plant has been operating at reduced capacity.

State energy firm Petronas did not immediately respond to a request for comment outside of working hours.

The Petronas LNG Complex has nine production trains with a production capacity of nearly 30 million tons per annum.

The MLNG Tiga production facility has two trains with a production capacity of more than 7 million tons per annum.

Tiga supplies clients including China’s state-owned oil and gas firm CNOOC, South Korea’s Korea Gas Corp and Japanese utility Tohoku Electric.
