US crude and distillate stocks fell, gasoline inventories rose last week, EIA says

U.S. crude stocks and distillate inventories fell while gasoline stockpiles rose in the week ending Jan. 17, the Energy Information Administration (EIA) said on Thursday.

Crude inventories fell by 1 million barrels to 411.7 million barrels last week, the EIA said, compared with analysts’ expectations in a Reuters poll for a 1.6 million-barrel draw.

Crude stocks at the Cushing, Oklahoma, delivery hub fell by 148,000 barrels, the EIA said.

Refinery crude runs fell by 1.1 million barrels per day, the EIA said, while utilization rates (USOIRU=ECI) fell by 5.8 percentage points in the week.

U.S. gasoline stocks rose by 2.3 million barrels in the week to 245.9 million barrels, the EIA said, compared with analysts’ expectations in a Reuters poll for a 2.3 million-barrel build.

Distillate stockpiles, which include diesel and heating oil, fell by 3.1 million barrels in the week to 128.9 million barrels, versus expectations for a 0.3 million-barrel rise, the EIA data showed.

Net U.S. crude imports rose last week by 184,000 barrels per day, EIA said.
