The U.S. Coast Guard closed the Houston Ship Channel on Friday afternoon, near the Lynchburg Ferry, due to a sunken tow vessel, according to a ship agent’s notice.
Efforts are underway to account for all crew, minimize pollution from fuel leakage and mitigate impact on channel traffic, according to the notice.
It was unknown how long the channel will remain closed, though salvage operation could take at least 48 hours.
