The publication notes that access to the sea and river ports of Bulgaria will be prohibited for all ships — regardless of the flag under which they are sailing — if they are certified by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.
The decision is in line with the EU regulation on the implementation of sanctions.
Sofia imposed a ban on Russian-flagged ships entering its ports back in April 2022. This measure was envisaged by the fifth package of pan-European sanctions. Now the ban is being extended to Russian vessels flying the flags of other countries.
Bulgaria recently identified Russian aggression as a direct threat to global peace. In addition, the country stated that the Russian army is committing systematic war crimes in Ukraine.
