Ukraine’s naval forces have closed to shipping the northwestern area of the Black Sea, the General Staff said on Facebook on Wednesday.

“For ensuring safety Ukraine’s naval forces have closed the northwestern area of the Black Sea to civilian shipping,” the statement reads.

On Tuesday, Ukraine’s Infrastructure Ministry said the country was getting ready to prohibit Russian ships from entering the country’s territorial waters and ports and Ukrainian ships from entering Russian ports.

Earlier, Britain and Canada barred Russian ships from their ports in connection with the situation in Ukraine.
