The American Petroleum Institute (API) on Tuesday reported a decrease of 2.668 million barrels of crude oil in U.S. inventories for the week ending Oct. 20.
Analysts had expected a hike of 1.550 million barrels for this week.
The API reported a decline of 4.383 million barrels in the previous week.
Oil prices fell on Tuesday. The West Texas Intermediate for December delivery lost 1.75 U.S. dollars, or 2.05 percent, to settle at 83.74 dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
