Finalists in six categories announced as voting for #IAPH2024 Sustainability Awards winners opens online

Monday, 02 September 2024 | 20:00

IAPH is delighted to announce that voting by the general public has opened today for the #IAPH2024 Sustainability Awards, with votes being collected online via its World Ports Sustainability Program website.

These outstanding projects have been chosen by our expert jury from a long list of 71 projects submitted by over 50 ports around the world, all of which have now been added to the publicly-available projects database. The IAPH World Ports Sustainability Program (WPSP) now contains over 400 best practices covering all seventeen UN Sustainable Development Goals.

In order to take part in the public vote, people have the chance to review the details of all the projects before submitting their choice for each category.

The outcome of the public vote (30%), together with that of the Jury evaluation (70%) will co-determine the winners of the Awards.

The voting will remain open until midnight Central European Summer Time (CEST) on 13 September, giving everyone just under a fortnight to make their choices and to verify their choices online.

A seventh prize, the Akiyama Award, will also be go to the highest-placed IAPH Sustainability Awards finalist runner-up from a Least Developed Country, a Landlocked Developing Country or a Small Island Developing State.

“In the past we have seen numerous categories where competing projects are very close in terms of the marks from the jury” commented IAPH Technical Director and WPSP Coordinator Antonis Michail. “So it is definitely the case that the voters can make a difference in terms of the final outcome. We wish all of our regular and associate members the best of luck.”

The winners will be announced in person at the upcoming IAPH 2024 World Ports Conference at the prestigious Gala Dinner to be held on 9 October in Hamburg, Germany.
