Goltens signs partnership with Orcan Energy for implementation of Marine ORC systems

Monday, 14 July 2025 | 20:00

Goltens Worldwide, a global leader in ship repair, retrofit, and green marine technologies, has signed an agreement with Munich-based cleantech company Orcan Energy AG, a pioneer in waste heat recovery solutions, to become a preferred and authorized engineering and installation partner for Orcan's Marine Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) systems.

Under the agreement, Goltens will provide international engineering, project management, installation, and commissioning support for Orcan's modular ORC systems, which convert low-temperature waste heat from ship engines into clean electrical power. The partnership enables shipowners and operators to leverage Goltens' proven expertise in complex marine retrofits and Orcan's class-approved energy efficiency systems to achieve fuel savings and reduce CO₂ emissions in line with EEXI, CII, and FuelEU Maritime compliance targets.

Goltens Worldwide CEO Sandeep Seth

“Our partnership with Goltens marks a significant step in scaling up the deployment of our ORC technology in the marine industry,” said Andreas Sichert, CEO of Orcan Energy. “Waste heat recovery is one of the most powerful and underutilized tools for improving energy efficiency. In shipping alone, over 100 TWhth (terrawatt-hours thermal) of waste heat could be harnessed. By combining Goltens' deep engineering and retrofit presence with our proven ORC systems, we're empowering shipowners to transform this untapped energy into clean, cost-effective power.”

Goltens Worldwide CEO Sandeep Seth added: “Joining forces with Orcan Energy to accelerate the adoption of innovative energy efficiency technologies across the maritime sector is another milestone for Goltens. Orcan's modular ORC systems represent a powerful tool in helping shipowners turn waste heat into a tangible performance and emissions advantage – and we are proud to support the design, integration, and delivery of these systems worldwide.”

Goltens will offer engineering assessments, feasibility studies, installation design, and full turnkey retrofit support from its global network of engineering and service hubs. The partnership reflects Goltens' ongoing investment in decarbonization solutions and strengthens its position as a trusted retrofit partner for energy efficiency systems and solutions.

Orcan Energy's Marine ORC solutions have been successfully installed across a wide range of vessel types, demonstrating reliable performance and measurable emissions reductions, helping ship owners to comply with continuously tightening regulatory requirements. The systems are fuel-agnostic and can be adapted both to newbuilds and retrofit installations. With Goltens and Orcan's long-standing partner Alfa Laval, Orcan is now working closely with two leading players of the global marine industry.
