Brazil has been authorized to export used cooking oil to the United States, the South American country’s government said on Thursday, opening the U.S. market to a product used as raw material for biodiesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
SAF is expected to account for 64% of the aviation industry’s efforts to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050 but currently makes up only 0.2% of global jet fuel use, meaning its output needs to increase dramatically in coming years.
