GreenPort Congress Oceania to highlight ‘The risks to Ports, Shipping & the Logistics from climate change’

The inaugural GreenPort Oceania will be held in Newcastle, Australia from 15 – 16 February 2023 and concluding with a half day port tour on 17 February. The conference is set to welcome a host of speakers offering advice, knowledge and information discussing the latest in sustainable development and environmental best practice. The conference attracts in the region of 150 attendees from across the Oceanic region in the following sectors:

  • Port authorities
  • Terminal operators
  • Shipping lines
  • Logistics operators

The 2023 conference, titled ‘Balancing environmental challenges with economic demands will cover a range of themes including;

  • Renewable Energy – Journey to net zero
  • Green Financing for Sustainable Port Development
  • Pathways to Sustainable Ports

Hosted by The Port Of Newcastle, the conference will be held at the Newcastle Exhibition & Convention Centre, (NEX). The centre is Newcastle’s most exceptional entertainment and conference venue and its proximity to all the action of nearby beaches, cafes, restaurants and the foreshore, makes it perfectly located for GreenPort Congress Oceania.

The event will bring together port authorities, terminal operators, shipping lines and logistics operators from around the world to learn about the latest in sustainable development and environmental practices within the Oceanic region and beyond.

Throughout two days of presentations and panel discussions delegates will learn from industry leading voices. On the first day (15th February), the conference welcomes a number of key speakers;

  • My Therese Blank, Head of Oceania Export Market, Regional Ocean Management, A.P. Moller, Maersk
  • Rodney Begley, Acting CEO, PNG Ports (Papua New Guinea)

  • Michael Blake, Founder & Chief Executive Officer, Zilch Forwarding

The GreenPort Congress Oceania conference dinner will be hosted by Port of Newcastle on the evening of 15th February. Networking and knowledge sharing are a highlight of all GreenPort events and, with the vast majority of attendees either influencing or making decisions relating to implementation of environmental measures, the Congress always delivers a high calibre audience. Located right on the beach, Merewether Surfhouse offers sweeping 270 degree views up and down the coast from each space within the venue.

On the final day, there will be an organised tour by our host port, Port of Newcastle. Delegates will enjoy an educational tour seeing how the presentations from the conference room are put into practice. Tour will be taken with Nova Cruises, a locally owned and operated business. offering ocean, harbour and river cruises from right in the heart of Newcastle.

Newcastle is a city port bringing with it all of the challenges and opportunities of being so closely connected to the local community.

This is the first time the conference will be held in the Oceanic Region. The conference has been running for almost two decades in Europe and host ports include Hamburg, Barcelona, Venice, Amsterdam, Valencia, Oslo, Piraeus and most recently Antwerp-Bruges.

Delegates come from all over the world, making this the ideal international forum for the exchange of information and plans of ports to progress in the journey to net zero. The Conference raises opportunities for maritime ports and terminals to reduce their carbon footprints whilst becoming more sensitive to the environmental considerations, which are vital to future success.
