Edison announces that it has completed a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) refueling for the Mein Schiff Relax cruise ship of the TUI Cruises company in the port of Trieste.

With this operation, Edison further consolidates its presence in the LNG bunkering market in Italy.

The refueling of the ship, recently launched by Tui Cruises, follows other ship-to-ship refuelings carried out by Edison in 2024 in the Adriatic Sea, the first ones executed in this area of the Mediterranean.

The LNG bunkering was carried out using the 30,000 cubic meter LNG carrier Ravenna Knutsen, a strategic asset of the integrated logistics chain built by Edison for Small Scale LNG. This operation confirms the growing strategic role of the Adriatic Sea for the supply and refueling of alternative fuels for the maritime sector.

Since 2021, Edison Group has strategically positioned itself on the entire Small Scale LNG value chain, creating the first integrated LNG logistics chain aimed at the sustainability of road and maritime transport. Thanks to an LNG carrier (Ravenna Knutsen) and the construction of a 20,000 cubic meter coastal LNG storage in Ravenna, Edison is able to supply both bunker vessels and tankers. The port of Ravenna was the first Italian hub in the trans-European TEN-T transport network to have alternative fuel, in line with the European DAFI directive and the International Maritime Organization regulation, which set limits for sulfur emissions from vessels in specific areas, such as the Mediterranean.

Edison is one of the main player in the security of gas supplies in Italy, thanks to one of the largest and most diversified long-term portfolios in the country, with import contracts from Qatar, Libya, Algeria, Azerbaijan, and the U.S., and the management of a fleet of 3 vessels dedicated to LNG transport.
