Bulgargaz opens tender for first LNG delivery via Turkey

Monday, 27 February 2023 | 01:00

Bulgaria’s public gas supplier Bulgargaz called a public tender for the supply of 500,000 MWh of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in April, which will be the first time the country will take delivery via a gas terminal in Turkey, it said.

The delivery is made possible by an agreement with Turkish state-owned gas operator Botas, which was signed last month giving Bulgaria access to the Turkish gas infrastructure, Bulgargaz said in a statement on Thursday.

As a pre-condition for participation in the tender, the LNG must come from countries on which no sanctions, embargoes or any other trade restrictions have been imposed, Bulgargaz noted.

Expressions of interest for participation in the tender will be accepted until February 28, documents published on Bulgargaz’ website showed. The public supplier is seeking a minimum of two tanker loads which when regasified must be equivalent to a total amount of no less than 1,500,000 MWh.

According to the tender documents, Bulgargaz will shortlist potential suppliers by March 2. They will then have until 2300 CET on March 9 to submit formal offers, with the winning bidder to be selected on March 10.

In November, Bulgargaz launched a tender procedure to select a long-term supplier of LNG via the planned terminal at Alexandroupolis, Greece between 2024 and 2034.
