DFDS Relies on the Fuel Consumption Measurement by KRAL

Friday, 12 October 2012 | 00:00
The United Steamship Company DFDS Seaways (Det Forenede Dampskibs-Selskab) from Denmark, one of the leading shipping groups in Northern Europe, has equipped three of its RO-PAX ships (Dover, Delft and Dunkerque-Seaways) with the fuel consumption measurement from KRAL. RO-PAX ships are combined ferries that transport both passengers and freight. In each ship the consumption of all four main motors, the power generation units and of the two burners are measured. Each fuel consumption measuring system has a BEM 500 electronic indication unit locally.
The information of all nine consumption measuring systems is transferred to the bridge and displayed by the KRAL BEM 800 well-arranged on only one display. All-in-all KRAL supplied 27 fuel consumption measuring systems to DFDS Seaways.
Nigel Cureton, Fleet Manager of the Dover Seaways, particularly values the product quality and the competent support, from the system design through to the installation and commissioning, by KRAL. A considerable amount of fuel could already be saved within a brief period. "The analysis of the data allows us to optimize the fuel consumption of the ship as a whole or individually for each individual section of the system", said Nigel. The fuel consumption systems facilitate the comparison between the ships and thus optimization of the fleet consumption. During the transition phase from heavy oil to distillates the system help in observing the specified temperature gradient of the engine manufacturers.
