Transshipment Containers Record a 35.34% Increase “Mawani” Achieves a 12.01% Increase in Container Handling in July 2025

The ports supervised by the Saudi Ports Authority (“Mawani”) recorded a 12.01% increase in the number of containers handled during July 2025, reaching 722,502 TEUs compared to 645,019 TEUs in the same period last year. Transshipment containers also posted a 35.34% increase, reaching 175,666 containers compared to 129,797 containers in the same period last year.

Export containers rose by 12.86% to 275,098 TEUs compared to 243,757 TEUs in the same period last year, while import containers recorded a slight increase of 0.10%, reaching 271,738 TEUs compared to 271,465 TEUs in the same period last year.

Total handled cargo—comprising general cargo, dry bulk, and liquid bulk—grew by 2.81% to 21,180,445 tons compared to 20,601,380 tons in the same period last year. General cargo totaled 461,958 tons, dry bulk cargo reached 4,096,185 tons, and liquid bulk cargo reached 16,622,302 tons. The ports also received 582,708 head of livestock, a 13.18% increase compared to 514,864 head in the same period last year.

Maritime traffic increased by 11.27% to 1,017 ships compared to 914 ships in the same period last year. Passenger numbers jumped by 41.70%, reaching 73,953 passengers compared to 52,191 passengers in the same period last year, while the number of vehicles fell by 22.66%, totaling 69,969 vehicles compared to 90,471 vehicles in the same period last year.

These increases reflect the expansion of trade exchange with global markets, the stimulation of sectors related to maritime transport, the enhancement of supply chain efficiency, the growth of maritime activity, the support of the Kingdom’s food security, the expansion of economic activity, and the creation of jobs—all in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 to solidify the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics hub and a key supporter of international trade.

It is worth noting that in June 2025, “Mawani” recorded an 18.66% increase in containers handled, reaching 696,839 TEUs compared to 587,261 TEUs in the same period last year.
