India’s Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal, on an official visit to the Netherlands from April 24 to 26, met Boudewijn Siemons, CEO of the Port of Rotterdam Authority, to boost maritime and trade ties between the two countries. The discussions focused on knowledge sharing, technology transfer, and sustainable port management practices.
Earlier during the visit, Barthwal held talks with Michiel Sweers, Director General for Foreign Economic Relations at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Barthwal also met ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet at the company’s headquarters to discuss expanding India-Netherlands cooperation in the semiconductor sector.
Prior to visiting the Netherlands, Barthwal was in Croatia on April 22 and 23, where he discussed potential collaboration in sectors such as railways, electric vehicles, defence, healthcare, renewable energy, and food processing. Both Croatia and the Netherlands held discussions with India on advancing the ongoing India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations.
