India’s Petronet signs deal with Sri Lanka’s LTL for LNG supply

Wednesday, 21 August 2024 | 15:00

Indian state-run firm Petronet LNG PLNG.NS said on Tuesday it signed a deal to supply liquefied natural gas to Sri Lankan engineering firm LTL Holdings’ power plants in Colombo.

Petronet will initially supply LNG to LTL for five years through its terminal in the south Indian city of Kochi, the country’s top gas importer said in a stock exchange filing.

Sri Lanka has suffered from crippling power blackouts and fuel shortages in the aftermath of an economic crisis in 2022.

In February, Petronet’s chief executive said they plan to begin supplying LNG to Sri Lanka for five years starting in 2025, through which they will ship 850 metric tons of gas daily to the island nation in 50 containers of 17 tons each.
