K2 Security Screening Group, an industry leader in aviation security, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mitch Merriam as the Vice President of Borders and Maritime Security. Merriam will be responsible for expanding the Security Screening Group’s presence in the border and port security space. A former member of the United States Senior Executive Service within the federal government, he held numerous leadership positions with the U.S. Customs Service and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for more than 25 years. He has experience in Border Security, Customs and Immigration enforcement, Anti-Terrorism and Intelligence, Public Safety, Law Enforcement, and International Advisory and Training Services.
Most recently, Merriam was the Area Port Director at Los Angeles International Airport, where he directed a workforce of more than 1,000 CBP officers, specialists, and trade professionals dedicated to protecting the homeland. His team screened and processed more than 10 million passengers and one million cargo shipments annually.

Merriam was the Executive Director of Operations at the CBP’s Office of Field Operations headquartered in Washington, DC, and held command positions protecting U.S. borders in San Diego, California, Tucson, Arizona and New Orleans, Louisiana. He also served as an advisor to the Border Management Task Force in Kabul, Afghanistan, supporting the U.S. Embassy, DOD, USAID, Army Corp of Engineers leadership, and Afghan Customs and Border Police.
