BinForGreenSeas comes to Canary Wharf pier

Tuesday, 08 June 2021 | 00:00

The financial capital of London is to see a new addition to its promenade. The big, bold and unmissable BinForGreenSeas will be sited at London Docklands.

The Lord Mayor of London, William Russell will be cutting the ribbon on the new installation on the 9th of June at 12:30 at E14 8RR.

Other notable guests include: the CEO of Canary Wharf Group, Sir George Iacobescu and Howard Dawber, Managing Director of Strategy Canary Wharf Group.

Plastic pollution and the climate crisis is taking precedence for Londoners. With restrictions in the UK easing and warmer weather on its way, the River Thames acts as a magnet, not only for approximately 120,000 people working on the Isle of Dogs, but also for visitors to this historic stretch of water.

“We are absolutely delighted to have a BinForGreenSeas in such a prominent location as Canary Wharf,” said Fazilette Khan, Founder of the GreenSeas Trust.

“The River Thames has some of the highest recorded levels of microplastics for any river in the world. By having the BinForGreenSeas located at the entrance to the pier for Thames Clippers, this subconscious visual stimulus will act as a constant reminder that single-use plastics when disposed of irresponsibly, is fuelling the vast problem of marine plastic pollution.”

Since 2019 GreenSeas Trust has placed six BinForGreenSeas in prominent coastal resorts. However this is the first for the capital. “We are very grateful to City Bridge Trust for giving us a grant that has enabled us to achieve this milestone,” said Fazilette.
