Shipping Official Says Many Ports Do Not Allow Iranian Vessels To Dock

Thursday, 10 January 2019 | 16:00

The chairman of Iran’s Shipping Society and related services, Massoud Polmeh says that a significant number of ports across the world do not permit Iranian registered vessels to enter and dock.

Blaming the U.S. re-imposed sanctions on the Islamic Republic for the rejection of ships carrying the Iranian flag at ports across the globe, Polmeh disclosed that some of the ports belong to “friendly and brother” countries. This is a reference to countries such as Russia or China.

Polmeh, a logistics and supply chain professional, also revealed, since the U.S. withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) or Tehran’s nuclear deal with world powers, twenty international shipping companies have closed down their offices at Iranian ports. He added that previous sanctions against Iranian individuals and legal entities have been revived.

Furthermore, Polmeh asserted that U.S. sanctions in tandem with Iranian national currency’s (the rial) steep fall, 40 percent of Iranians employed at ports and shipping related services in the Islamic Republic have lost their jobs.
