Wednesday, 05 December 2018 | 00:00

The Shipping industry is one of the last global multi-billion dollar industries with relatively low levels of digitization. TecPier GmbH & Co. KG (TecPier) has identified high development potential for digital business models across the maritime sector and will consequently invest in selected startups. In addition to receiving investments, the selected young companies will be supported with operational resources and networked with established industrial partners via TecPier. Additionally, TecPier will support established companies as an external innovation partner and problem solver for digital transformation processes.

TecPier will primarily invest in start-ups that are in the pre-seed and seed phases. This will help align the course of the young company’s development during the important early phase. Thus, the founders can direct their creative capabilities on their market placement and product development. TecPier places a clear focus on business models that have the potential to sustainably change the shipping industry.

Mehdi Afridi, Johannes Winkler und Konstantin Loebner founded Tec Pier

“We have already identified more than 150 maritime startups and interviewed various founders. We see great potential for the shipping industry, especially in the fields of energy efficiency, online marketplaces and digital process optimization in the coming years.”- says founding partner, Johannes Winkler.

Through partnerships with the Zeaborn Group, BitStone Capital and Inno Real; TecPier has experienced shareholders from the Shipping, Venture Capital and Company Building sectors who will be able to offer a wealth of knowledge and resources to Start-ups. This unique merger presents the possibility to identify and develop business models with great potential at an early stage.

Jan-Hendrik Többe, Managing Partner of the Zeaborn Group explains: “We firmly believe that over the next few years a number of digital businesses will emerge, that will completely transform the industry as we know it today. Together with our partners – BitStone Capital and Inno Real, we are looking forward to investing in the best entrepreneurs, who will launch these business models and to enable them with our expertise.”

The management team of TecPier has extensive knowledge and complementary skills: shipping expert Johannes Winkler started his career more than 10 years ago and worked with traditional companies such as Mitsui O.S.K. Lines and Rickmers Reederei. Mehdi Afridi and Konstantin Loebner have many years of experience in the development of digital business models. Together, they have founded the successful legal-tech-company “”.
